Marcos Cortes is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Corporate Transactions Group in Miami. He brings three decades of consulting experience and has specialized in M&A strategy for the last 14 years. Mr. Cortes focuses on the life sciences and industrials segments and has deep experience in pharmaceutical management, policy and outcomes.

Mr. Cortes assists corporate clients in executing both inorganic and organic growth strategies. He manages a range of initiatives related to mergers, acquisitions, and carve-outs across the entire lifecycle, from due diligence to post-closing activities. Mr. Cortes also brings extensive experience in M&A gross-to-net transitions and antitrust M&A regulation, leveraging his knowledge to help clients navigate complex regulatory environments with ease. 

Mr. Cortes designed the Deal Product Perimeter, a comprehensive product database that captures and offers an in-depth understanding of assets under review. Working across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, his notable engagements include leading the $63 billion integration of a Fortune 100 research-based global biopharmaceutical company with a global pharma company; advising on the $31 billion tax-free spin off of the medical device division from a global pharmaceutical company; and directing a $4 billion divestiture of a business unit for a Fortune 500 technology multinational based in California. 

Mr. Cortes also orchestrated strategic due diligence for a market-leading diabetes and obesity biopharma, acquiring a biopharmaceutical company’s manufacturing arm and integrating 400 specialists; and advised a $1 billion complex divestment for a large multinational pharmaceutical company.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Cortes was a part of the KPMG M&A Strategy team, advising global clients on due diligence and pre- and post-merger activities. He also formed and led a strategic global cross-functional internal mergers and acquisitions organization at Siemens. 

Mr. Cortes earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul and an MBA in Entrepreneurship Concentration from Rollins College Crummer Business School. He holds a certificate from the advanced M&A strategy program at UCLA and one in Pharmaceutical Management from Cornell University and is a candidate for a master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences (concentration in pharmaceutical regulation) at the University of Florida. Mr. Cortes is also a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
