David Ritter is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Consumer and Retail Group in Houston. He brings more than 20 years of experience in retail, consumer goods, food service and consumer-facing industries, with a focus on growth strategy, operational transformation, customer experience redesign and digital transformation.

Mr. Ritter’s notable assignments include leading the full-scale corporate digital transformation of a $30 billion grocery retailer across all digital elements, including web, mobile app, marketing and underlying enterprise architecture. He also led the transformation of the retailer’s in-store, multi-channel operating model, reigniting top-line growth and driving on-line penetration over 10 percent. Mr. Ritter led an operational transformation for a $5 billion specialty retailer that focused on cost initiatives, including in-store labor optimization, store experience, cost of goods and indirect procurement. He also developed a new partnership with Amazon.com that enabled revenue growth and over $500 million in cost savings.

Previously, Mr. Ritter led an organizational redesign for a $50 billion grocer that focused on differentiating across formats and driving speed through organizational realignment and process changes; a growth strategy for a $3 billion retailer that developed a new small box format and significantly expanded the potential for growth in urban locations, delivering a planned $500 million in revenue growth; a due diligence and merger integration for a large drug retailer that resulted in $1 billion in synergy benefits; and a go-to-market plan for a venture-capital-backed fresh-food consumer package goods company.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Ritter was a Partner with McKinsey & Company for 15 years. There, he led the Grocery Practice in the Americas and the global Store Operations and Customer Experience Service Line. Prior to that, Mr. Ritter was an Officer in the U.S. Army for six years, leading multiple international deployments, including Operation Iraqi Freedom, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Mr. Ritter earned a bachelor’s degree in operations research from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas.
