John Bettley-Smith
Across Mr. Bettley-Smith’s career, he has helped infrastructure funds, large corporates and sovereign wealth funds navigate the tax issues that arise at each stage of the transaction lifecycle. He has led on key tax workstreams as part of the acquisition process (both diligence and structuring), advising portfolio companies on post-acquisition strategy, strategic acquisitions and refinancings, structure maintenance and exit readiness.
Mr. Bettley-Smith also works on the tax aspects of the sale process, including due diligence and exit structuring. He has worked on both domestic and international transactions with clients in various industries, including Vodafone, Blackstone, Equitix, KKR, First Sentier, UBS, GIC, New Mountain Capital and Masdar. Mr. Bettley-Smith also has experience in the private equity sector, having worked on a number of large cap deals in recent years.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Bettley-Smith was a Director with the M&A and Funds Tax group at Deloitte, where he was a key part of both the infrastructure and sovereign wealth fund offerings.
Mr. Bettley-Smith earned a bachelor’s degree (first class honours) in finance, accounting and management from Nottingham University. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAS) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).
