Mr. Simpson specialises in operational performance improvement, workforce productivity, due diligence and enterprise-wide cost reduction, using a range of tools and techniques, including the application of Lean methodology. He has worked with clients in the U.K., EMEA and U.S. across a range of industries, including manufacturing and production. He has also led complex buy-side operational due diligence processes, with a focus on manufacturing, including footprint, capacity, synergies and value creation potential via productivity improvement and cost reduction.

Most recently, Mr. Simpson worked with a national delivery company to develop and implement a consistent set of day-to-day operating standards for all front-line staff and managers to help improve performance. This helped the company to realise £50 million to £75 million of productivity-based savings. Previously, Mr. Simpson held the interim position of Operational Transformation Director for an energy company. He guided the business through several challenges, including a sensitive integration programme.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Simpson spent 15 years in operations consulting as Senior Manager. His significant achievements include the transformation of two manufacturing facilities for a global aerospace company; the cost turnaround of a European automotive company; and the deployment of Lean techniques to boost productivity and better integrate teams for a large supplier into the U.K. defence supply chain. He has also led cost reduction engagements covering all aspects of pay and non-pay. He has identified £150+ million in cost savings and personally delivered ~20% of this to the bottom-line.

Previously, Mr. Simpson was Lead Mechanical Engineer for a global Tier 1 aerospace company, where he focused on the design, test, manufacture and in-life management of engine control units for military platforms, including the use of value engineering techniques to reduce product cost and assembly time.

Mr. Simpson earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering with financial management from the University of Strathclyde and an MBA from the University of Northampton. He is a Chartered member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a qualified Procurement Professional.
